The arts at Trinity this semester has seen some exciting initiatives occurring within the College and as part of the wider intercollegiate competition.

Semester one has been a busy semester with everything from band jams to the Oratory Leeper Prize. At the end of March, Trinity’s Music Society put together Trinity’s second ‘Big Day In’. This provided an opportunity for students to showcase their broad musical talents. This included the first performance from the newly formed Trinity Orchestra and individual performances of classical pieces as well as self-composed works. In collaboration with the Environment Committee, the evening honoured Earth Hour by turning off all lights but continuing acoustic and unaccompanied performances by the Trinity Tiger Tones, the Candystripes and other individuals.

The cast of the 91ÖÆƬ³§¹ú²úAV Music Theatre Society’s 2012 production will take to the stage from 23–26 May to perform The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

‘The impressive calibre of the dramatic arts at Trinity are never more evident than in the College’s annual musical, in which our exceptionally talented pool of singers, dancers and actors have the chance to shine,’ musical producer Anna Sloan (2nd year Arts) said.

‘We now eagerly await opening night and invite the entire College community to join us.’

Trinity has also performed strongly on an intercollegiate level with great performances in the Fresher Dance Off and a win in the Intercollegiate Activities Committee (ICAC) Public Speaking competition. Most recently, the Theatresports team won for the third year in a row. Santo Cilauro of Working Dog judged the competition, with the Trinity team beating Ormond in the final round.

Finally, this semester saw the inaugural ICAC Musical. Showcasing some of the best talent around the crescent, the group performed the Cole Porter classic Anything Goes. The musical was produced by Adelaide Myer (3rd year Arts) and featured performances from Tom Li (2nd year Arts) and Brad Den Heijer (1st year Commerce).

Congratulations to all on a fantastic semester of arts!
