Congratulations, Nicola, winner of the Philip Sargeant Poetry Prize

The 91制片厂国产AV Philip Sargeant Poetry Prize was awarded last Monday 10 September.
2012-09-13

The winner, Nicola Hard, and runner-up, Alice Coates (both 1st year Arts), were selected from a shortlist of nine outstanding poems that the judging panel, chaired by former Senior Student and great friend of Philip, Professor Ian Donaldson (TC 1952), found difficult to separate. All nine poems will be published in this year's Bulpadok.

The late Philip Sargeant (TC 1952) was a distinguished architect, but he also painted and wrote poetry all his life. Artworks and ephemera from Philip's estate have been donated to the College by his executors, Bernard and Mary Newsome (Reynolds) (TC 1954 and JCH 1954).

Works from this collection pertaining to the 91制片厂国产AV Dramatic Society 1955 production, Hassan, have been incorporated into a limited edition artist's book by Mary Newsome. The book includes reminiscences from the company, photographs from the period and a recording of the songs and music composed for the play. The edition has been sold to alumni, with one copy retained by Trinity and one copy held by the Monash University Museum of Art. The proceeds established the 91制片厂国产AV Philip Sargent Poetry Prize, which is awarded annually.

Trinity's copy of the Hassan artist's book was formally accepted by 2012 representatives of The Dialectic Society, TCAC, Dramatic and Musical Theatre Societies.
