Media Festival 2020 wrap-up

Last month, the Media and Communications department within Trinity’s Pathways School hosted an online media festival, adapting to the challenges of 2020. Though we couldn’t celebrate in person this year, the digital world revealed a number of opportunities.

Each year, Media and Communications staff and students from Trinity’s Pathways School hold a media festival. This festival is a celebration of the hard work, creativity and curiosity of our talented students.

The festival material is typically collated and curated with the help of a strong and dedicated student committee, and this year was no exception. Many after-hours virtual meetings were held!

The COVID-19 pandemic posed many challenges for Trinity as a learning community, however it also gave us the opportunity to host this year's Media Festival online, which allowed us to be creative in ways that previously we could not have imagined.

There were many firsts achieved at this year's festival:

Microsoft Sway was successfully used as the digital platform to host the students’ work. This allowed us to reach a much wider audience than usual. (By the way,  to the Sway exhibition if you’d like to take another look.)

We hosted our first ever one-minute film competition and received more than 40 fabulous entries.  This is an event that we will keep from now on!

One Minute Comp

We hosted an industry insights webinar with three industry professionals and two former students. This was a wonderful opportunity for the Media and Communications community to get a taste of the ‘real world'. The event was attended by more than 150 participants. This is also an event that will feature in future festivals.

This year's festival theme was: â€˜Be Seen. Be Heard’. We challenge all of you, as we challenged our students, to consider what these four words mean to you.
