The University of Melbourne awards Blues to student sportswomen and sportsmen for outstanding sporting performance at the Australian University Games.

Isabelle is in her fourth year of a Bachelor of Environments degree, and has now won four consecutive gold medals in the pole vault at University Games. Meanwhile, Joseph is in his first year of a Bachelor of Commerce, and is currently with a personal best of 2.22 metres. Joseph won the high jump at his first University Games.

Here, Isabelle shares her experience with us and reflects on winning this prestigious award.

1. What does it mean to be presented with a Full Blue on Friday night?

Being the highest sporting achievement at the University of Melbourne, it is an absolute honour to be presented with a Full Blue. It was particularly special as the Australian University Games was the first major competition I鈥檇 competed in after ten months off, due to injury.

2. What can you tell us about winning the gold medal at University Games for pole vault?

This year was the fourth time I鈥檝e represented the University at the Australian University Games. I was fortunate to win my fourth consecutive gold medal in the pole vault, with a personal best of 3.65m.

3. What was the final like?

Winning competitions usually means that you will be the final vaulter in the competition, requiring you to have consecutive jumps without much break. This, combined with the humid heat of the Gold Coast, made it a physically challenging competition.

 4. How did you first get involved with pole vault and how long have you been competing in the sport?

Pole vault was an athletic discipline that I always admired as a little athlete. When I was 15, there was an opportunity to participate in a trial session in Melbourne. It was physically awkward, but I couldn鈥檛 wait to come back the next weekend for round two.

5. How has competing in sport at Trinity complemented your other sporting endeavours?

I love trying new sports, and the intercollegiate offerings at Trinity has given me opportunities to participate in sports that weren鈥檛 offered at my regional school. Given the individual nature of athletics, it鈥檚 been a joy to participate in team sports while at the College.

Congratulations Isabelle and Joseph on their fantastic achievements. If you are interested in learning more about Trinity鈥檚 sporting programs please follow the link.
