Bishop Goldsworthy will be returning to Victoria for the role, from her work as an Assistant Bishop of Perth, where she has worked since 1988.

Following her studies in ministry at Trinity, she served in parishes of Thomastown-Epping and Deer Park-St Albans before moving to Western Australia.

Notably, Bishop Goldsworthy was the first woman consecrated a bishop in the Anglican Church of Australia.

Her election as Gippsland’s 12th bishop comes less than six months after the shock death of Bishop John McIntyre after a short illness in June.

According to Archdeacon Philip Muston of Warragul, who has been Administrator of Gippsland since Bishop McIntyre’s death, ‘Bishop Kay is somebody with the leadership skills and the kind of management skills that we will appreciate’.

Of her appointment, Bishop Goldsworthy said, ‘I am deeply aware of the responsibility and privilege being given to me, and look forward to working alongside the clergy and lay people of Gippsland in the mission entrusted to us all in Christ’.
