Jim holds degrees in Engineering and Law from the University of Adelaide and a Masters of Law from the University of Melbourne.
Jim has been a member of the Trinity Board since 2009 and affiliated with the College for more than 25 years, commencing as a Resident Tutor in 1988.
During his time in residence, Jim served as President of the Senior Common Room and Acting Joint Dean. Later, he also served as Chairman of the College Buildings and Grounds Committee.
‘A supportive and creative environment is critical to young people as they explore exciting opportunities, and I am passionate about the sense of community at Trinity,’ Jim said.
Jim has practiced as a lawyer domestically and internationally and has held a number of senior roles at Macquarie Group Limited in the resources, infrastructure and fund management areas. Jim is currently Chairman of Macquarie Capital (Melbourne) and is also a Director of Australian United Investment Company Limited.
Trinity’s visions for the future will demand innovation and a strong network of resources as the College continues to develop the educational and personal opportunities it offers its students.
‘Providing students with a pathway to the University of Melbourne or a pathway from the University to a global societal position is a truly exciting mission to be a part of,’ Jim said.
‘It is a privilege to guide the College during a period of change, knowing that Trinity will always provide a sense of community and connectedness to our students, despite education becoming more globalised and digitised.’
The Warden of 91ÖÆƬ³§¹ú²úAV, Professor Andrew McGowan, expressed his delight in Jim’s appointment as the new Chairman of the Board.
‘Jim’s leadership and experience will be invaluable to the Board as it continues in striving to offer students a world-class collegiate education,’ Professor McGowan said.
