The Creative World (Fine Arts Stream) led by Syd Brisbane gave students the opportunity to investigate a diverse range of art forms while building confidence and developing personal identity. Highlights for students were the singing workshop, excursion to the Australian Centre for Moving Images and the Playing Shakespeare workshop.

Members of the Persuasive World (The Arts Stream) enjoyed the enthusiastic coordination of Dr Maureen Vincent. Highlights for the students included lectures on the psychology of persuasion and persuasion in subliminal messages as they discovered how persuasion is used in everyday life.

Cate Elsworth led the Inner World (Biomedicine Stream) which explored the world of medicine and medical research. The students particularly loved the practical experiments conducted in at the University of Melbourne’s laboratories including Dissection of an Eye and Genetics: Murder in Melbourne experiments.

The Outer World (Science – Engineering Stream) run by Madeline Papandreou gave students a hands-on taste of electrical systems, mechanical systems, mathematics and physics. Highlights for the students included the rockets workshop where students made and launched their own rockets and the robotics workshops where students constructed and programmed their own robots.

The Leadership Project was a highlight for many students as they worked in their mentor groups on developing a creative solution to an issue surrounding sustainability. The standard of presentations was extremely high with topics varying from animal welfare and waste management to innovative solutions for reducing energy consumption.

The 2012 Young Leaders were a bright and enthusiastic group keen to try everything. Students reported that they had learned, amongst other things, confidence, independence, cultural awareness and team skills. This was evident from their enthusiasm for activities including rock climbing, circus training, cultural night and hip hop dancing.
